Campfire PieMarch 22, 2019
This is a great idea for desert over your grill or when you are camping and want to make all the other people in the area jealous of your Tailgate Master skills. Check out this fun recipe for grilling cherry pie (or blueberry pie) at your next tailgate, or even in your backyard.
Campfire Pie Recipe
- 4-6 pieces Naan bread or Pita bread
- 1 can pie filling of choice (cherry or blueberry are family favorites)
- 1 cup quick oats
- ½ cup brown sugar
- 2 tbsp cinnamon
- ¼ stick butter (melted)
- 2 cups powdered sugar
- 1/2 stick butter
- 3-4 tbsp milk
- 1 tsp vanilla (optional)
For icing: melt butter, and mix in powdered sugar and 3 tbsp milk. Add more milk until desired consistency
Toast one side Naan or pita bread over campfire (I like to cut them in half first)
Brush toasted side with light coat of butter, sprinkle with oats, brown sugar and cinnamon then top with pie filling
Return to fire and cover with pan or deep lid a few minutes until bottom is toasted and pie is warm
(works best if you can cook indirect or raise from the fire a bit – the goal is to trap the most heat in the pan lid and less from the bottom of the crust)
Once hot, remove from fire and top with icing mix
