How long do you cook T Bone steaks on the grill?
Glad you asked, ’cause we love grilling T Bone steaks!! If you have your heat at about 400 degrees… and you like your T-Bone steak medium rare, grill for four to five minutes on each side or until your meat thermometer reads 130 to 140 degrees Fahrenheit. For a medium steak, grill six to seven minutes per side or until a meat thermometer reads 140 to 150 degrees.
How do I know when my steak is done?
The only perfect method is to use a digital thermometer to test the internal temperature as measured in the middle of the steak. The USDA recommends that you cook to 145 F and then allow to rest for at least three minutes.
RARE = 125 degrees F
MEDIUM RARE = 130-135 F
MEDIUM = 140-145 F
MEDIUM WELL = 150 F
WELL DONE** = 155-160 F
** NOTE: Don’t be the guy that asks for well done… seriously… people will laugh at you behind your back and you won’t get invited back… just sayin’.
Grilling T-Bone Steaks Recipe Step by Step
1) Season your steak at least 40 minutes before grilling
2) oil your grill grates, then preheat to 400 degrees
3) Reverse Sear Method: Place the seasoned T-Bones on the coolest part of the grill and let cook for 15-20 minutes. Note: Time will very depending upon thickness of cut and temp of your grill.
4) Now move your steaks to the hottest part of the grill (directly over coals) for 2-3 minutes.
5) Flip your T-Bone steaks and let sear for 2 more minutes then remove from grill. Make sure internal temp reaches at least 145° F for medium.
6) Remove from grill, cover and allow to rest 5-10 minutes before cutting.
