Each year, the Special Olympics Polar Plunge challenges thousands of brave jumpers at numerous locations around the state of Minnesota. It’s a great way for everyone—individuals, organizations and businesses—to get involved in supporting Special Olympics Minnesota. All funds raised go towards programming and events.

This year, in conjunction with Special Olympics Minnesota, the Otter Tail County Sheriff’s office and OTC on ICE, we were proud to be a small part of helping launch a brand new jump location in West Central Minnesota’s heart of 1000 lakes, Otter Tail County.

One hundred and ninety nine people signed up to take the Plunge in Otter Tail Lake on February 1st, 2022 to support Special Olympics Minnesota.

The goal for this first year plunge location was $40,000.

What can I say? With your help, we blew that number right out of the ice water!

The Otter Tail Lake location raised more than $67,000.00 !!

What is Polar Plunge?

The concept is pretty simple: participants raise a minimum of $75 and take a dip into one of Minnesota’s frozen lakes. But the Plunges are so much more than that: They’re the kind of fun and thrilling events that you really have to experience to understand.

Your donation is tax deductible and supports over 8,000 Special Olympics Minnesota athletes!

The Polar Plunge wouldn’t happen without the support of Law Enforcement!

Plunges are a part of the year-round fundraising program called the Law Enforcement Torch Run, through which law enforcement personnel from across the state raise funds and awareness for Special Olympics Minnesota. Throughout the year, men and women in law enforcement volunteer their time and energy to host events to support us. In 2020, their amazing efforts are on pace to raise $4 million for our athletes. The Otter Tail County Sheriff’s Office led the charge at this new event and we are glad they did.

WOOOOOOOOO!!!

The Polar Plunges may be just one part of the many events that the Law Enforcement Torch Run hosts each year, but they’re certainly the most well known. Law enforcement folks sit on the planning committee at all Plunge locations, volunteer on Plunge days, recruit the dive teams to ensure safety at all events, help with set up and tear down of the Plunge sites, and work all year round to make these events a huge success.

THANK YOU! Fantastic job everyone… outstanding success for a first year event! We hope you will come support the effort in Otter Tail County in 2021.
